The Logon Process

Windows 9X has the ability to log on users, and Windows will create a new user account for someone logging on for the first time.

It is possible to simply click Cancel and enter Windows.

To disable the Logon Password request at Startup

  • Click Start | Settings | Control Panel.
  • Double-click Network.
  • OR
  • Right-click on the Network Neighborhood Icon

  • Click the arrow next to Primary Network Logon.
  • Click Windows Logon.

  • Click OK.

  • Click NO.
  • Click Start | Settings | Control Panel.
  • Double-click Passwords.
  • Click the Change Passwords tab.

  • Click Change Windows Password.
  • Click OK.
  • In the Change Windows Password dialog box, type your current Windows password in the Old Password box.
  • Leave the New Password and Confirm New Password boxes blank.
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
  • Click the User Profiles tab and VERIFY that the All users of this PC use the same preferences and desktop settings option is selected.

    CAUTION: If the All users... option is not already selected, then User Profiles may have been created. Any changes made to these options, may result in the loss of your User Preferences.

  • Click Close.

  • Shut down and restart Windows 95/98.

CAUTION: This information only applies if you are NOT using User Profiles. If you ARE using User Profiles and perform these steps, you may lose your User Preferences (custom desktop colors, icons, etc.).
